Surgical and other materials adhering to skin
Abstract
Abstract Adhesive material permeable to water-vapour and oxygen, but impermeable to water and unaffected by it consists of a substrate carrying on at least a part of at least one of its sides a layer of a pressure-sensitive glue. The substrate and/or the glue consists of synthetic polymers. The composite has a water-vapour permeability of at least 300 (for some applications at least 500) g/m2. per 24 hrs., at 40 deg. C and a relative humidity of 80%. Specifically the substrate and/or the glue layer may be continuous or discontinuous, i.e. porous, perforated, etc. The composite may comprise an additional component(s) in the form of e.g. a wound-dressing material fastened to the underside of the composite, protective tearaway covering may be applied onto the glue layer. Used for surgical purposes, as masks, bandages, plasters, etc., or for cosmetic purposes, e.g. as protective or decorative nail covers, etc.
