Abstract

Abstract A covered stent for treating a stenotic region in a blood vessel. The stent covering has different porosities in different regions. In those regions, typically the ends, where tissue ingrowth and re-endothelialization are desired, the stent covering is more porous, and in those regions were it is desirable to inhibit such ingrowth, the stent covering is substantially non-porous.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 78 words
An endoprosthesis implant comprising: a) a stent having an expandable frame structure; b) a stent covering disposed on said stent, said stent covering including a first region having a plurality of pores defining a first porosity, and a second region having a second porosity different than said first porosity, said second porosity being defined by said second region having at least one of fewer pores than said first region, smaller pores than said first region or no pores.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 25 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said pores in said first region have a pore diameter of from about 30 to about 120 micrometers.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said second region has fewer pores than said first region.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said second region has smaller pores than said first region.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said second region has no pores.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said second region is substantially impermeable to passage of body fluids under atmospheric pressure.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 36 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said stent covering comprises a plurality of fibers, said fibers having an average diameter that is larger than an average pore diameter of said pores in said first region.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 47 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said stent covering comprises a substantially continuous polymeric sheet having pores interspersed in at least said first region, said pores having an average pore diameter and being spaced apart an average distance that is greater than said average pore diameter.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 8 wherein said second region is substantially impermeable to passage of body fluids under atmospheric pressure.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 48 words
The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 wherein said stent covering is substantially cylindrical and has opposed ends, said first region comprising portions of said stent covering adjacent said opposed ends, and said second region comprising a middle portion of said stent covering interposed between said first region portions.
