Drill head for the medullary canal
Abstract
The medullary boring head is used to drill open the marrow cavity of a long bone during the osteosynthetic nailing of fractured long bones. It has an end part (1), a middle part (2), a rear part (3) and a coupling part (4) adjoining the rear part for releasable attachment to a drivable, flexible drilling shaft. The medullary boring head is designed as a hollow rotating body and has three openings (5) in the end part (1) and one in the rear part (3) in the form of slots cut spirally into the lateral surface (6) of the hollow rotating body.
