Independent Claim
151 words
In a method of making a valve having a valve member that is reciprocated in a straight line along an axis of the valve to seat on and unseat from a seat member and that is guided by a guide member that is disposed against said seat member, the steps of joining said seat member and said guide member together which comprises providing several projections between otherwise complementary confronting surface portions of said seat member and said guide member respectively, forcing said seat and guide members together so that the projections provide electrically conductive contact between said confronting surface portions, and while keeping said members forced together, conducting electric current between said members along a current path that includes said projections to thereby melt said projections, and terminating the electric current while said members are kept forced together and allowing the melt to solidify into welds that join said members together.
