Abstract
Abstract A stent (54) for insertion within a body passageway and radial expansion therein is provided. The stent (54) is capable of expanding from a first to a second diameter by the inelastic deformation of the material of which the stent is comprised. The stent comprises a hollow tube, open at both stent ends and having a series of slots (56) therein. The ends of the stent and the slots are rounded so as to provide smooth surfaces obviating the abrading of such body passageways.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim
69 words
A stent for being radially expanded within a body passageway from a first to a second diameter by the inelastic deformation of the material of which the stent is comprised; said stent comprising: a hollow tube, open at both stent ends and having a series of slots therein; said stent ends and said slots being rounded; whereby, said stent provides smooth surfaces, obviating the abrading of said body passageway.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
25 words
The stent of claim 1 wherein said stent is provided with an articulatable section at an intermediate position along the longitudinal length of the stent.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
12 words
The stent of claim 2 wherein the articulatable section comprises bendable struts.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
23 words
The stent of claim 1 mounted on an inflatable balloon capable of providing an expanding force for said radial expansion of said stent.
