A valve prosthesis for implantation in the body and a catheter for implantating such valve prosthesis.
Abstract
The invention relates to a valve prosthesis (9), which is designed to be implanted in the body by means of a catheter (11) and which comprises a splint member organ obtained from a shaped wire structure of expandable cylinder (2, 3) comprising several spaced vertices (4). The elastically deformable biological valve (6) is mounted on the splint element member, while the commissural points (5) of the biological valve (6) are fixed to the projecting vertices (4). This valve prosthesis (9) can be compressed around the balloon (13) of the balloon catheter (11) and introduced into a conduit, for example into the aorta (10). Once the valve prosthesis is placed correctly, the balloon (13) is inflated, which expands the splint member organ and wedges it against the wall of the aorta. The balloon is provided with protrusions (14) providing firm attachment of the valve prosthesis to the balloon during insertion and expansion. This valve prosthesis (9) and the balloon catheter (11) allow a cardiac valve prosthesis without surgery involving the opening of the rib cage.
