Abstract

Abstract An endoscopic cutting apparatus for use in endoscopic surgical procedures. The apparatus has a frame having a proximal end and a distal end. A handle is attached to the proximal end of the frame. Hook means (95) are mounted to the distal end of the frame for engaging tissue or blood vessels. The hook means (95) has a track means (97). Cutting blade (115) means are mounted to said frame and are movable within said track means (97) to cut tissue or blood vessels engaged within said hook means (95). Actuating means are mounted to the frame to actuate the cutting means in order to cut tissue or blood vessels engages within said hook means. Optional rotation means are mounted to the frame to allow the hook means (97) and cutting means (115) to rotate with respect to the frame. Optional extension means extend and retract the hook means into and out of the distal end of the frame.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 93 words
An endoscopic cutting apparatus an elongate frame having a proximal end and a distal end; a handle attached to the proximal end of said frame; hook means for engaging tissue or blood vessels mounted to the distal end of said frame, said hook means having track means; cutting blade means mounted to said frame and movable, axially, within said track means; and, actuating means mounted to said frame for moving said blade means in said track means axially through said hook means for cutting tissue or blood vessels engaged by said hook means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 17 words
The apparatus of Claim 1 wherein the cutting means comprises a blade mounted to a plate carrier.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 32 words
The cutting apparatus of Claim 1 wherein the hook means comprises: a member having a blunt distal end and a hook shaped opening therein for receiving and engaging tissue or blood vessels.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
The hook means of Claim 3 wherein the track means comprises an axial passage in the hook means of sufficient size to allow the blade means to effectively slide axially therein.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
The cutting apparatus of Claim 1 further comprising rotation means allowing the hook means to rotate with respect to the frame.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
The endoscopic cutting apparatus of claim 1 wherein the frame further comprises a proximal elongated hollow frame member mounted to the proximal end of the frame for receiving the actuation means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the hook means comprises a plate member folded over onto itself to form a track, and, a hook-shaped opening therein.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising extension means for extending and retracting the hook means into and out of the distal end of the frame.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 105 words
The combination of a trocar cannula and an endoscopic cutting apparatus wherein the cutting apparatus comprises: an elongate frame having a proximal end and a distal end; a handle attached to the proximal end of said frame; hook means for engaging tissue or blood vessels mounted to the distal end of said frame, said hook means having track means; cutting blade means mounted to said frame and movable, axially, within said track means; and, actuating means mounted to said frame for moving said blade means in said track means axially through said hook means for cutting tissue or blood vessels engaged by said hook means.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 17 words
The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the cutting means comprises a blade mounted to a plate carrier.
