System for automatic contrast regulation of images and camera provided with same
Abstract
Abstract The device employs gain control on the basis of statistical analysis of the brightness levels of image points. A microprocessor analyses the distribution of these levels in slices of levels imbricated into one another and determines an error value on the gain on the basis of this analysis and of a criterion characterising correct gain, for example that 80 % of the points analysed are in a slice covering the intermediate levels, between 14 and 53 for levels able to vary between 0 and 63. This automatic gain control can be combined with an automatic control of the mean level, established on the basis of the mean brightness measured on a readjustment area taken in a part of the image known a priori. The invention applies especially to the correction of contrast and mean level for infrared cameras. <IMAGE>
