Abstract
Abstract A thirty-two bit frame buffer provides real time conversion of CYMK color data to RGB color data for display on a video monitor (18). The frame buffer operates at a video rate of 100 mHz and includes pipelined arithmetic using look up tables for some of the CYMK to RGB conversion steps. Also provided are look up tables providing gamma correction and pixel-by-pixel selection of CYMK to RGB conversion, to allow display of an RGB window in a CYMK information display.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim
65 words
A method of displaying four color data on a three color display monitor comprising the steps of: providing a display controller; providing the four colour data as four color digital pixel data; transforming the four color digital pixel data to digital three color data in the display controller; converting the digital three color data to analog data; and displaying the analog data on the monitor.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
19 words
A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the transforming step comprises looking up values in a look-up table.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
36 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, 2, 3 or 4 comprising the step of performing a brightness correction relative to the particular display monitor on the digital three color data prior to the converting step.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
58 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the transforming step includes the steps of providing connected transforming elements for serially transforming the four color digital pixel data in each transforming element so that as a particular transforming element completes a transformation, the particular transforming element receives additional data, thereby pipelining the step of transforming.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
36 words
A method as claimed in claim 1, 2, 3 or 4 comprising the step of performing a brightness correction relative to the particular display monitor on the digital three color data prior to the converting step.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
36 words
A method as claimed in any preceding claim comprising the step of displaying an image which was not subject to the transforming step on the monitor simultaneously with the step of displaying the analog color data.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
20 words
A method as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the four color digital pixel data is 32 bits per pixel.
Claim 8
Independent Claim
32 words
A method as claimed in any preceding claim comprising the step of storing the four color digital pixel data as such for further processing at the same time as the transforming step.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
75 words
A display controller for a three color display monitor comprising: means for providing four color serial data; means for arranging the four color serial data into at least 32 bits per pixel of the display monitor; means for transforming the at least 32 bits per pixel into three color digital data; means for converting the three color digital data into analog data; and means for providing the analog data to the three color display monitor.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
36 words
A display controller as claimed in claim 9 comprising means for correcting a brightness level relative to the particular display monitor of the three color digital data, thereby correcting for inconsistencies in the particular display monitor.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
24 words
A display controller as claimed in claim 10 wherein the means for correcting includes one look-up table for correcting each of the three colors.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
40 words
A display controller as claimed in claim 9, 10 or 11 comprising means for providing other data which was not subject to the step of transforming to the display monitor and simultaneously displaying the other data with the analog data.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
52 words
A display controller as claimed in claim 9, 10, 11 or 12 wherein the means for transforming includes a connected series of transforming elements each capable of transforming a data element and passing the transformed data element to a next transforming element in the series thereby pipelining transformation of a data element.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
20 words
A display controller as claimed in claim 13 wherein at least one of the transforming element is a look-up table.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
35 words
A display controller as claimed in claim 13 or 14 wherein each transforming element transforms the data element in less than the time needed by the display monitor to process the data for one pixel.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim
22 words
A display controller as claimed in any one of claims 9-15 comprising means for storing the four color serial data as such.
