Abstract
Abstract A portable data collection/transmission device (1) and a data collection system that transmits data from the data collection/transmission device (1) to a data reception device (7) that is provided at the center over a telephone circuit (6). The data collection device (1) is equipped with a terminal unit (2) through which the data are written and a one-way acoustic coupler (3) having a function which converts the data input through the terminal unit (2) into binary codes of a low frequency adapted to be transmitted over the telephone circuit. The data collection device (1) sends the data onto the telephone circuit (6). The data reception device (7) is equipped with a modem that converts data signals from the telephone circuit into ordinary data signals, and a work station (9) for storing the output of the modem. The data reception device (7) is further equipped with a voice synthesizer (10) which outputs predetermined low-frequency audio frequencies onto the telephone circuit (6) in response to an instruction from the work station (9). When a call from the data collection/transmission device (1) is set, the voice synthesizer outputs a low-frequency audio frequency for confirming the setting of call to the data collection/transmission device (1) in response to an instruction from the work station (9), and whereby transmission of data is started.

A data collection-transmission apparatus having a memory which can store data, operation means which can enter operational instructions such as the data input/output instructions to said memory, and a central processing unit which implements data input and output to/from said memory in accordance with the operational instruction entered through said operation means, wherein said apparatus comprises a unidirectional acoustic coupler including a signal processing circuit which converts data read out of said memory by said central processing unit in accordance with the operational instruction from said operation means into a binary signal which can be transmitted over a telephone line and a speaker which receives the binary signal produced by said signal processing circuit, converts the received signal into an acoustic signal and supplies the acoustic signal to a telephone set.

A data collection-transmission apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus further comprises a dial tone generation circuit which produces a binary-converted dial tone signal representing a certain telephone number, and switching means which selects, in accordance with the operational instruction from said operation means, one of said dial tone signal produced by said dial tone generation circuit and the binary signal produced by said signal processing circuit, and supplies the selected signal to said speaker.

A data collection system comprising: a portable data collection-transmission unit having a memory which can store data, operation means which can enter operational instructions such as the data input/output instructions to said memory, a central processing unit which implements data input and output to/from said memory in accordance with the operational instruction entered through said operation means, and a unidirectional acoustic coupler including a signal processing circuit which converts data read out of said memory by said central processing unit in accordance with the operational instruction from said operation means into a binary signal which can be transmitted over a telephone line and a speaker which receives the binary signal produced by said signal processing circuit, converts the received signal into an acoustic signal and supplies the acoustic signal to a telephone set; and a data reception unit having demodulation means which is linked to a telephone line and operates to convert the binary signal transmitted over said telephone line into a data signal, information terminal means which stores the data signal produced by said demodulation means, and a low-frequency oscillator which outputs a prescribed audible-frequency signal to said telephone line in accordance with the instruction signal from said information terminal means, said information terminal means operating on said low-frequency oscillator to produce said audible-frequency signal in response to the establishment of a call from said data collection-transmission unit.
