Angioplasty light guide catheter for stenosis ablation by means of laser energy
Abstract
The angioplasty light guide catheter has a dilatation balloon (1) to be inserted percutaneously into the vessel to be treated. The inside of the balloon is connected to a suction and pressure pump via a shaft and can therefore be precisely regulated in diameter. Light guides (6) extend over the entire length of the shaft and are coupled to a laser device via a connector at the proximal end of the catheter. At the distal end, the light guides are inserted into the wall of the dilatation balloon (1). For the removal of stenoses with laser light energy, the exit points of the light guides (6) can be moved radially outwards and inwards by changing the pressure in the dilatation balloon (1). The distance of the exit points (6a) from the center line of the balloon (1) is thus a function of the pressure of the balloon fluid. This distance can thus be changed and checked in a simple manner.
