Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 112 words
An annuloplasty ring prosthesis comprises a body defining a substantially circular shaped ring proportional to fit about the annulus of a heart valve, the body being formed by two or more segments (12,32 or 52,54,56), each defining a different part of the ring, and a flexible covering (34,62) fitted about the segments, said segments (12,32 or 52,54,56) being arranged with their ends adjacents to define the ring characterised in that said ends are not directly connected to each other, said flexible covering (34,62) holds the segments in the end-to-end positional relationship, and holding means (36,38 or 64,66,68) is provided to hold the covering (34,62) tightly about the adjacent ends of the segments.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 15 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 1 wherein each said segment (52,54,56) is substantially rigid.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 1 wherein said body is formed from a three substantially equivalently sized and shaped segments.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 30 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 1, wherein said body is formed from three segments (52,54,56) of which one (56) is substantially straight, the other two segments (52,54) being curved.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 1 including at least one segment (32) formed from a plurality of individual smaller segments (24,26) linked together.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 35 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 5, wherein said smaller segments (24,26) are arranged in end to end relationship with the adjacent ends being formed respectively with complementary concave depressions (20) and rounded ends (22).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 31 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 5 or 6, comprising one segment (32) formed from smaller segments, and one further segment (12) which is substantially straight with slightly curved ends (16,18).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 5, 6 or 7 wherein said smaller segments (24,26) are tied together with a cord (28).
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 30 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 8 wherein each of said smaller segments (24,26) is formed with at least a first aperture (40) through which said cord (28) is drawn.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 33 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of claim 6, 7, 8 or 9 wherein said further segment (12) is formed from titanium and said linked together smaller segments (24,26) are formed from a plastic material.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 29 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of any preceding claim, wherein said holding means (36,38 or 64,66,68) comprises cords tightly tied between said adjacent ends of the segments (12,32 or 52,54,56).
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 25 words
The annuloplasty ring prosthesis of any preceding claim wherein said flexible covering (34,62) is a fabric including a portion through which sutures may be passed.
