Abstract

Abstract Tandem balloon dilatation catheter assembly (11) having a flexible elongate member (12) with proximal and distal ends. The flexible elongate member (12) is provided with at least first and second lumens (13, 14) extending therethrough. First and second balloons (21, 22) are carried by the distal extremity of the flexible elongate member (12) and are spaced apart longitudinally thereof. The first balloon (21) has a diameter which is less than the diameter of the second balloon (22). The first balloon (21) is disposed distally of the second balloon (22). Communication is established between the interior of the first balloon (21) and the first lumen (13) and between the interior of the second balloon (22) and the second lumen (14).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 107 words
In a tandem balloon dilatation catheter assembly, a flexible elongate member having proximal and distal ends, the flexible elongate member being provided with at least first and second flow lumens extending therethrough, first and second balloons carried by the distal extremityy of the flexible elongate member and being spaced apart longitudinally thereof, said first balloon having a diameter which is less than the diameter of the second balloon, said first balloon being disposed distally of the second balloon, means establishing communication between the interior of the first balloon and the first lumen and means establishing communication between the interior of the second balloon and the second lumen.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 107 words
In a tandem balloon dilatation catheter assembly, a flexible elongate member having proximal and distal ends, the flexible elongate member being provided with at least first and second flow lumens extending therethrough, first and second balloons carried by the distal extremityy of the flexible elongate member and being spaced apart longitudinally thereof, said first balloon having a diameter which is less than the diameter of the second balloon, said first balloon being disposed distally of the second balloon, means establishing communication between the interior of the first balloon and the first lumen and means establishing communication between the interior of the second balloon and the second lumen.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
An assembly as claimed in Claim 1 together with guide wire means carried by the distal extremity of the flexible elongate member.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
An assembly as claimed in Claim 2 wherein said guide wire means is secured to the distal extremity of the flexible elongate member.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
An assembly as claimed in Claim 2 wherein said flexible elongate member is provided with a third lumen passage extending therethrough and wherein said guide wire means is removably mounted in said third lumen.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 50 words
An assembly as claimed in any one of Claims 1-4 together with a fitting carried by the proximal extremity of the flexible elongate member for introducing inflation mediums into the first and second lumen and into the interiors of the first and second balloons for inflating and deflating the balloons.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 20 words
An assembly as claimed in Claim 5 together with means for venting entrapped air in the first and second balloons.
