Abstract

Abstract Angled balloon dilatation catheter (11) having a flexible elongate tubular member (12) with first and second lumens (13, 14) extending therethrough and with proximal and distal extremities. An angled balloon (21) is carried by the distal extremity of the tubular member (12). The elongate tubular member (12) has a tubular element (16) extending through the balloon (21). The first lumen (13) extends through the tubular element (16) and is capable of receiving a guide wire (31) so that the guide wire (31) extends therethrough. The second lumen (14) is in communication with the interior of the angled balloon (21) for inflating and deflating the balloon (21). The balloon (21) subtends a predetermined interior angle.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 101 words
In a dilatation catheter, a flexible elongate tubular member having first and second lumens extending therethrough and having proximal and distal extremities, an angled balloon carried by the distal extremity of the tubular member, the elongate tubular member having a tubular element extending through the balloon, the first lumen extending through the tubular element and being capable of receiving a guide wire so that the guide wire extends therethrough, and means for establishing communication between the second lumen or flow passage and the interior of the angled balloon for inflating and deflating the balloon, the balloon subtending a predetermined interior angle.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 101 words
In a dilatation catheter, a flexible elongate tubular member having first and second lumens extending therethrough and having proximal and distal extremities, an angled balloon carried by the distal extremity of the tubular member, the elongate tubular member having a tubular element extending through the balloon, the first lumen extending through the tubular element and being capable of receiving a guide wire so that the guide wire extends therethrough, and means for establishing communication between the second lumen or flow passage and the interior of the angled balloon for inflating and deflating the balloon, the balloon subtending a predetermined interior angle.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 32 words
A dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 1 together with a guide wire disposed in and extending through said first lumen, said guide wire yieldably increasing the angle subtended by the balloon.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 38 words
A dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 2 together with an additional member extending through the tubular member and extending into the balloon to apply an additional yieldable force further increasing the interior angle subtended by the balloon.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
a dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 3 wherein said additional member is a vent tube extending through the second lumen.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
A dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 1 in which the balloon subtends an interior angle on the order of 35° or less to 160° or more.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 37 words
A dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 1 together with spaced apart directional markers carried by the tubular element within the balloon, each of the markers having a different angular position with respect to the other markers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
A dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 6 wherein said markers are in the form of a double helix of a radiopaque material.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
A dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the subtended angle is approximately 85°.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 30 words
a dilatation catheter as claimed in Claim 1 together with a removable angle sleeve disposed on and frictionally engaging the angled balloon to retain the predetermined angle in the balloon.
