Abstract Corrugating adhesives free of the incompatibility problems encountered with a fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol comprise a major portion of water, starch, strong base, a boric acid compound and a fully hydrolyzed water soluble polyvinyl alcohol composition.

An aqueous fast setting corrugating adhesive composition which comprises, in an aqueous emulsion, a major proportion of water, starch, an amount of strong base sufficient to provide an alkaline pH, an effective bond forming amount of a boric acid compound and an amount of a fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol composition sufficient to increase the strength and rate of formation of a green bond over that achieved in the absence of the polyvinyl alcohol composition.
