Abstract

Abstract A fully automatic organ pressure sensitive apparatus for dislodging and removing obstructions in bodily cavities or organs by both delivering and removing fluid thereto operable by continuous or intermittent perfusion of fluid over a set pressure range to effect dissolution and removal of the obstruction without complications to the patient. By continuous feedback monitoring of organ and body cavity pressure, the apparatus can constantly vary in fusion and aspiration rates to maintain the set pressure range. If the pressure is above or below the set range, it displays a safety feature causing the apparatus to shut down and sounding an alarm to alert the operator.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 145 words
An apparatus for effecting the removal of obstructions in bodily organs or cavities comprising a reservoir containing a fluid therein, a feedback controlled pressure transducer responsive controller means for controlling a pumping means for operating over a preset normal operating pressure range wherein said fluid is passed in a first direction from said reservoir to said organ causing said fluid to contact and dissolve said obstruction and aspirating said fluid containing said obstruction away from said organ causing said aspirated fluid to be deposited in said reservoir, and above said preset normal operating pressure range causing said fluid to be diverted in a second direction away from said organ for a time sufficient to reestablish normal operating pressure, and below said normal operating pressure range causing said pumping means to stop aspirating said fluid and continue passing said fluid to said bodily organs or cavities.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Independent Claim 167 words
An apparatus as described in claim l, wherein said pumping means comprises a first and second pump connecting, respectively, to a first and second conduit means for passing fluid at said normal operating pressure range wherein said first pump connecting to said first conduit means passes fluids from said reservoir in a first direction to said bodily organ or cavity causing said fluid to contact and dissolve said obstruction, while said second pump connecting to said second conduit means passes fluid from said bodily organ or cavity containing said dissolved obstruction to said reservoir, and above said normal operating pressure said first pump connecting to said first conduit means diverts said fluid in a second direction for a time sufficient to reestablish said normal operating pressure range, and below said normal operating pressure range said first pump continues passing fluid to said organ or bodily cavity and said second pump stops passing said fluid from said organ or bodily cavity until said normal operating pressure is reestablished.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 142 words
An apparatus as described in claim 2, wherein said first conduit means comprises tubing connecting to said first pump and said reservoir, a catheter connecting to said first pump and said bodily organ, said first pump passing fluid from said reservoir through said tubing and said catheter to said bodily organ or cavity, and first and second pressure sensitive actuatable valving means, said first and second actuatable valving means being opposite acting, said first valving means opening within or below said normal operating pressure range passing said fluid to said bodily organ or cavity and closing at pressures above said normal operating pressure range, said second valving means closing within said normal operating pressure range and opening at pressures above said normal operating pressure range, thereby diverting said fluid from said organ for a time sufficient to reestablish said normal operating pressure.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
An apparatus as described in claim 3, wherein said second conduit means comprises tubing connecting to said second pump and said reservoir, a catheter connecting to said second pump and said bodily organ or cavity.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 39 words
An apparatus as described in claim 4, wherein said second conduit means further comprises a pressure sensitive actuatable valving means, said valving means opening at said normal operating pressure and closing at operating pressures below said normal operating pressure.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 66 words
An apparatus as described in claim 4 or 5, wherein said catheter connecting to said first or second pump is a 3-lumen catheter wherein a first lumen passes fluid from said reservoir to said bodily organ or cavity, said second lumen passes said fluid from said organ or bodily cavity to said reservoir, and said third lumen for communicating with said pressure transducer responsive controller means.
Claim 8
Independent Claim 194 words
An apparatus for effecting the removal of obstructions in bodily organs or cavities comprising a reservoir containing a fluid therein, a feedback controlled pressure transducer responsive controller means for controlling a pump means for passing fluid through a conduit means operable within a preset normal operating pressure range wherein said fluid is passed in a first direction from said reservoir through said conduit means to said organ causing said fluid to contact and dissolve said obstruction and passing said fluid containing said obstruction away from said organ through said conduit means causing said fluid to be deposited in said reservoir, and above said preset normal operating pressure range causing said fluid to be diverted in a second direction away from said organ for a time sufficient to reestablish normal operating pressure and after said time if said normal operating pressure is not reestablished then passing said fluid backward through said conduit means to purge said apparatus, and below said normal operating pressure range causing said pumping means to stop passing said fluid from said organ through said conduit means to said reservoir while continuing to pass said fluid to said bodily organs or cavities.
