Abstract

Abstract A speed detecting device for detecting the speed of movement of a pick-up is disclosed. The device incorporates a plurality of coils (27, 28) and a magnetic circuit arrangement. The magnetic circuit arrangement may be of various forms but includes gaps in which lines of flux exist and through which the coils pass on movement of the pick-up (1). Crossing the lines of flux by the coils generates in each coil an electric signal representative of the speed of relative movement between the coils and the magnetic circuit arrangement and the coils are arranged such that an extraneous magnetic field passing through the coils will produce an error signed with an electrical sense relative to the speed detecting signal in one coil which is opposite to that produced in the other coil or in other coils. Embodiments of the magnetic circuit arrangement are disclosed comprising first and second magnetic circuit members (20, 21) and permanent magnets (23, 24). The coils may be positioned over the magnets or over portions of the magnetic circuit spaced from the magnets. Movement of the pick-up may result in movement of the coils or of the magnetic circuit arrangement.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 132 words
A speed detecting device comprising a plurality of coils and a magnetic circuit arrangement, the coils and the magnetic circuit arrangement being positioned relative to one another such that magnetic lines of flux of the magnetic circuit arrangement pass through the coils, and such that relative movement at the speed to be detected can be effected between the coils and said magnetic circuit arrangement, so that the coils cross lines of flux and electrical signals are generated therein representative of the speed of relative movement, and the coils being arranged such that an extraneous magnetic field passing through the coils will produce an error signal with an electrical sense relative to the speed detecting signal in one coil which is opposite to that produced in the other coil or in other coils.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 132 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 66 words
A speed detecting arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the magnetic circuit arrangement is formed by first and second magnetic circuits each comprising a permanent magnet and a rectangular frame-shaped magnetic member with the magnet being positioned on one side of the rectangular frame-shaped member and the magnetic lines of flux being set up between this side and the facing side of said rectangular frame-shaped member.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A speed detecting arrangement according to claim 2 wherein the said facing sides of each of said first and second magnetic circuits are positioned adjacent to one another.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
A speed detecting arrangement according to claim 3 in which said plurality of coils comprises first and second coils surrounding respective facing sides of said first and second magnetic circuits.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 37 words
A speed detecting device according to claim 3 wherein said plurality of coils comprises first and second coils surrounding respective permanent magnets and the sides of the first and second magnetic circuits on which they are positioned.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 50 words
A speed detecting device according to claim 5 wherein a driving coil of a linear magnetic drive circuit is provided surrounding said adjacent facing sides of said first and second magnetic members and wherein the first and second coils and said driving coil are linked so as to move together.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 124 words
A speed detecting device according to claim 1 wherein said magnetic circuit arrangement comprises an arcuate circuit member, first and second correspondingly shaped permanent magnets attached at spaced positions on the inner arcuate surface of said arcuate metal member, and first and second rods each positioned opposite a respective one of said arcuate magnets such that substantially radial magnetic lines of flux extend between each rod and the respective magnet, and wherein said plurality of coils comprises first and second coils each surrounding a respective one of said first and second rods and having a corresponding arcuate shape to the portion of the coil positioned between said rod and the respective arcuate permanent magnet, the two coils being linked so as to move together.
