Abstract

Abstract In order to give a desired surface finish to a metal member, such as the support member (I) of a photosensitive drum for use in electrophotography, a plurality of hard balls (3) having surface irregularities (6) are dropped onto the member. The surface finish is therefore not provided by machining.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 34 words
I. A surface-treated metal body which comprises a metal body having a plurality of spherical indent recesses as irregularities formed on the surface, and further having fine irregularities formed in the spherical indent recesses.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 25 words
A surface-treated metal body according to Claim I, wherein the irregularities are formed by spherical indent recesses having substantially equal radius of curvature and width.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 65 words
A process for producing a surface-treated metal body which comprises allowing a plurality of rigid balls having irregularities on the surfaces to fall onto the surface of a metal body, thereby forming irregularities on the surface of the metal body through indent recesses made by the rigid balls, and also forming fine irregularities in the indent recesses by the surface irregularities of the rigid balls.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to Claim 3, wherein the rigid balls of substantially same diameters are allowed to fall from substantially same levels.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 41 words
A photoconductive member comprising a photoconductive layer on a support, the support being a surface-treated metal body having irregularities formed through a plurality of spherical indent recesses on the surface and also having fine irregularities formed in the spherical indent recesses.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
A photoconductive member according to Claim 5, wherein the irregularities are formed through the spherical indent recesses of substantially same radius of curvature and width.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 34 words
A photoconductive member according to Claim 5 or 6, wherein the radius of curvature R and the width r of the spherical indent recesses are in a range of 0.035 5 r/R ≤ 0.5.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 33 words
A photoconductive member according to any one of Claims 5 to 7, wherein the radius of curvature R of the spherical indent recesses is in a range of 0.1mm ≤ R 5 2.0mm.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
A photoconductive member according to any one of Claims 5 to 8, wherein the width r of the spherical indent recesses is in a range of 0.02mm 5 r 5 0.5mm.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 33 words
A photoconductive member according to any one of Claims 5 to 9, wherein the levels of the fine irregularities in the spherical indent recesses is in a range of 0.5 to 20 um.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 56 words
II. Rigid balls for surface treating a metal body, which comprises rigid balls having irregularities formed on the surfaces and capable of forming spherical indent recesses on the surface of the metal body and also fine irregularities in the spherical indent recesses when the balls are allowed to fall onto the surface of the metal body.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 23 words
Rigid balls according to Claim II, wherein the irregularities on the surfaces of the rigid balls are formed by chemical or mechanical treatment.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 27 words
Rigid balls according to Claim II or 12, wherein the surface of the rigid ball is coated with a film, thereby adjusting the levels of the irregularities.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 24 words
Rigid balls according to any one of Claims II to 13, wherein the surface roughness is in a range of 0.5 to 20 µm.
