Abstract

Abstract An artificial blood vessel comprises a woven, braided or knitted fabric structure. Fibers so extend from a surface of the fabric structure as to be randomly intertwined with the fabric structure. The intertwining of the fibers with the fabric structure can be achieved by applying a high fluid pressure against a surface of the fabric structure.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 18
Claim 1
Independent Claim 44 words
An artificial blood vessel comprising a woven, braided or knitted fabric structure characterised in that the blood vessel further comprises fibers so extending from a surface of the woven, braided or knitted fabric structure as to be randomly intertwined with the said fabric structure.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 44 words
An artificial blood vessel comprising a woven, braided or knitted fabric structure characterised in that the blood vessel further comprises fibers so extending from a surface of the woven, braided or knitted fabric structure as to be randomly intertwined with the said fabric structure.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
2 . An artificial blood vessel as defined in claim 1, wherein at least some of the said intertwined fibers have a fineness less than 1 dtex.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
An artificial blood vessel as defined in claim 2, wherein at least some of the said intertwined fibers have a fineness less than 0.5 dtex.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
4 . An artificial blood vessel as defined in claim 3, wherein the fibers are ultrafine fibers, preferably having a fineness of 0.2 dtex or less.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
An artificial blood vessel as defined in any preceding claim, wherein at least some of the fibers of the said fabric structure have a fineness more than 1.5 dtex.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 24 words
An artificial blood vessel as defined in any preceding claim, wherein the fibers of the artificial blood vessel are composed mainly of polyester fibers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
An artificial blood vessel as defined in any preceding claim, wherein the said fabric structure is a woven structure.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 23 words
An artificial blood vessel as defined in any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the said fabric structure is a knitted structure.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 23 words
An artificial blood-vessel as defined in any preceding claim, wherein the intertwined fibers are provided by threads incorporated in the said fabric structure.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 45 words
A method of manufacturing an artificial blood vessel of fabric having a woven, braided or knitted fabric structure wherein, by applying a high fluid pressure against a surface of the said fabric structure, fibers on the said surface are randomly intertwined with said fabric structure.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 45 words
A method of manufacturing an artificial blood vessel of fabric having a woven, braided or knitted fabric structure wherein, by applying a high fluid pressure against a surface of the said fabric structure, fibers on the said surface are randomly intertwined with said fabric structure.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method as defined in claim 10, wherein at least some of the said intertwined fibers have a fineness less than 1 dtex.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 15 words
A method as defined in claim 10 or claim 11, wherein the fluid is water.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 29 words
A method as defined in claim 10, claim 11 or claim 12, wherein the said fabric structure is in a tube-shaped form when subjected to the high pressure treatment.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 24 words
A method as defined in claim 13, wherein a spacer is inserted into the tube-shaped fabric structure when performing the high pressure fluid treatment.
Claim 17
Independent Claim 47 words
A method as defined in any one of claims 9 to 14, wherein fibers extending from a surface of the said fabric structure are provided prior to the said application of the high fluid pressure so as to randomly intertwine the said extending.fibers with the fabric structure.
Claim 18
Independent Claim 53 words
A method as defined in any one of claims 9 to 14, wherein the said application of the high fluid pressure against a surface of the said fabric structure causes formation of fibers extending from the said surface of the fabric structure and intertwining of the said extending fibers with the fabric structure.
