Abstract

Abstract A collapsible filter basket adapted to be introduced into a blood vessel of a patient, and comprising a plurality of resilient wires (2) interconnected (4) at their respective ends, characterised in that in its expanded and relaxed state the basket (1) assumes the shape of an apertured, elongate solid of revolution with pointed ends, and that the length of the basket, as measured between said ends, is at least equal to the maximum diameter thereof.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 75 words
A collapsible filter basket adapted to be introduced into a blood vessel of a patient, and comprising a plurality of resilient wires (2) interconnected (4) at their respective ends, characterized in that in its expanded and relaxed state the basket (1) assumes the shape of an apertured, elongate solid of revolution with pointed ends, and that the length of the basket, as measured between said ends, is at least equal to the maximum diameter thereof.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 75 words
A collapsible filter basket adapted to be introduced into a blood vessel of a patient, and comprising a plurality of resilient wires (2) interconnected (4) at their respective ends, characterized in that in its expanded and relaxed state the basket (1) assumes the shape of an apertured, elongate solid of revolution with pointed ends, and that the length of the basket, as measured between said ends, is at least equal to the maximum diameter thereof.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
A filter basket as claimed in claim 1. characterized in that the length of the solid of revolution is between 1.5 and 3 times its maximum diameter.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
A filter basket as claimed in claim 1 or 2. characterized in that the solid of revolution is symmetric about median plane normal to its axis.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
A filter basket as claimed in any of claims 1-3, characterized in that the generutrix of the apertured solid of revolution is a smooth, quasi-sinusoid curve.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
A filter basket as claimed in any of claims 1-4. characterized in that the resilient wires (2) extend in the form of helices on the surface of the solid of revolution, all said helices having the same hand.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
A filter basket as claimed in claim 5. characterized in that the ends of each wire (2) are spaced apart approximately 90° about the axis (3) of the basket.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 69 words
A filter basket as claimed in any of claims 1-6 and comprising a series of anchoring legs (6) which at one end of the basket (1) protrude outwardly at an angle with its axis (3) and each of which is formed, at its free end, with an outwardly bent hook (7), characterized in that each leg (6) is S-shaped with a pronounced outward curvature immediately adjacent the hook (7).
