Abstract

Abstract @ An inflatable catheter and method of medical treatment in which the flexible balloon material stretches when inflated to produce an acorn-shaped balloon, the broadened base of which seals against the vein interfacing the coronary sinus orifice of the heart to allow for stoppage of the natural flow of blood in the vessel, and which facilitates anterograde controlled, synchronous retroinfusion of pharmacologic or angiographic agent into the myocardium. An inflated catheter and method of medical treatment in which the apex of the inflated acorn-shaped balloon tapers away from the walls of the coronary sinus to prevent blockage of fluid flow through the middle cardiac vein thereby preventing pressure build up and edema in the myocardium.

Claim 6
Dependent Claim 34 words
The catheter claimed in Claim 1 wherein said means for delivery of fluid consists of a medical infusion pump for controlled administration of specified quantities of pharmacologic fluids into said hollow fluid delivery tube.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 43 words
The catheter claimed in Claim 1 wherein said means for securing said balloon material to the distal extension of said catheter body consists of application of cement to bind the balloon material to the catheter fluid delivery tube, and applying ligatures for reinforcement.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 87 words
The catheter claimed in Claim 1 wherein the means for inflating said balloon material consists of small orifices located in the hollow fluid delivery tube and disposed in the area of the cavity formed by the balloon material when sealed and secured at the distal extension of said hollow fluid delivery tube, said orifices providing channels allowing for conveyance of fluid from said hollow fluid delivery tube into the cavity formed by said balloon material and facilitating thereby inflation of the catheter balloon by the infusing fluid.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 81 words
The catheter claimed in Claim 1 wherein said means for inflating said balloon material consists of a second hollow small lumen tube structurally connected to said fluid delivery tube, the distal extension of which is disposed inside the cavity formed by the balloon material when secured and sealed to said hollow fluid delivery tube, said small lumen inflating tube thereby facilitating the conveyance of fluid into the balloon cavity thereby inflating said catheter balloon by the flow of pressurized infusing fluid.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 35 words
The catheter claimed in Claim 1 further comprising: means to monitor the myocardial beat and to administer fluids through said catheter in a pulsatile manner following each heart beat when the heart is in diastole.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
