Abstract

The intramedullary nail has a continuous longitudinal slot (6, 7) which has a Z or S bend (7a) and a bend (7b) symmetrical to it in the region of the end facing away from the nail tip. As a result, the two adjacent edge zones (8, 9) delimiting the slot are so interlocked with one another that widening of the nail in this area is not possible and the customary conical instruments can be used for driving in and out. The continuous slit ensures uniform elasticity over the entire length of the nail. In order to keep the radial force component small when driving in and out, a trapezoidal profile can be used instead of a thread with a triangular tip profile.
