Abstract

In order to keep the opening for introducing a catheter into a blood vessel as small as possible, a catheter insertion tube (1) coaxially encompassing the puncture cannula is used, which consists of or at least in a circumferential area and / or at least along a part of its longitudinal extent (L 2 ) there is a plurality of expansion regions (6) which permit an expansion of the diameter. The diameter (d 2 ) of the catheter insertion tube (1) at the insertion into the blood vessel (3) is the same or approximately the same as the outside diameter (d 3 ) of the catheter (4). The catheter insertion tube (1) can thus be expanded at least over part of its longitudinal extent (L 2 ) by the catheter (4) and thus the catheter insertion tube (1) can be pulled off via the catheter (4) and it is the puncture site (3a) through the catheter (4) lockable.
