Abstract

The invention relates to an ultrasound head, in particular a transducer comb for an ultrasound array or a compound scanner, which consists of a predeterminable number of transducer elements lined up in specific area information, the width of which is smaller than the height. In the case of transducers of this type, the lateral resolution is to be considerably improved with optimum radiation or reception performance. This is achieved by a transducer element arrangement (9) with a fine division of the transducer elements (11a, 12a to 11n, 12n) in such a way that the width (b) of each individual transducer element is clearly below half the wavelength (λ / 2) of the emitted or received ultrasonic waves lies, but within the arrangement always a certain number of converter elements of the fine division by parallel connection (14, 16) to groups (13). The total radiation / reception area including the intermediate spaces (20) of such a group should correspond at least approximately to the active area of a single element of conventional transducer element arrangements. Despite the relatively high loss of division, the group interconnection results in at least the same radiation power as in conventional transducer arrangements, but the echo response is practically free of transverse vibrations (FIG. 2).
