Surgical instrument for use in laparoscopic operations - has blade with combined rotary and longitudinal movement
Abstract
Abstract A surgical instrument, which is esp. intended for laparoscopic operations, has a tubular housing (20). The housing has an axial extension (10) which forms an anvil for the blade, (40) which is pivoted to the housing (20). The blade (40) has slot (42) which has its long axis aligned with the longitudinal axis of the blade. The slot (42) engages a pivot pin and the blade is pressed against the pin by a compression spring (54). The blade is operated by a rod (30) which is installed inside the housing. As the rod is pulled longitudinally the blade (40) is swung downwards towards the anvil and at the same time the blade is moved in the longitudinal direction so that the tissue supported on the anvil is more easily cut. USE/ADVANTAGE - Surgical instrument for laparoscopic operations. The combined rotary and longitudinal movement of the blade provides increased cutting effectiveness.
