Abstract

Abstract A screw, in partic. a double screw for a plastics extruder has at least one spiral form screw flight. Both the outer dia. and the core dia. are tapered inward from the inlet end to the outlet end of the screw and the channel depth changes. Increased compression of the molten polymer can be avoided if the screw pitch changes continuously, at least in the output region, while the volume of the channel between adjacent screw flights remains fixed.
