Abstract
Abstract A catheter device for carrying out a biopsy consists of a mini-endoscope (11), and a forceps (15) which are assembled together inside the inner sheath (5) to form a single unit. The mini-endoscope (11) is formed from a bundle (10) of optical fibres made from quartz glass with a lens (14) forming the objective piece (13) at the distal end. The cross-section of the mini-endoscope (11) is smaller than the cross-section of the forceps (15). The assembly composed of the mini-endoscope (11), the forceps (15) and the inner sheath (5), are guided inside the outer sheath when in use.
