OpHthalmic surgical instrument for aspirating lens residues and laser phacocataract system with two such instruments
Abstract
Abstract The instrument intended for aspiration of lens residues or for supplying irrigation fluid into the anterior chamber of an eye to be operated on comprises a handpiece with a chamber on its front end from which a cannula extends and into which in each case one suction line, one supply line and, so as to be flush with the cannula, one longitudinal guide for a laser light circuit (glass fibre) lead. The glass fibre can be displaced in the cannula and fixed in the particular position of adjustment chosen, and it is sealed off from the chamber in the longitudinal guide extending to the other side. The laser phacocataract aspiration system is equipped with two such instruments and designed for bimanual operation techniques. The suction lines and the supply lines can each be connected via switchable valves to a vacuum pump or a source of irrigation fluid such that in each case only one instrument with its suction line is in contact with the pump and the other instrument with its supply line is in contact with the source of irrigation fluid. Furthermore, a laser of the suction system is always connected to the laser light circuit of that instrument whose suction line is in contact with the vacuum pump.
