Abstract

Abstract In small-caliber guiding wires having a diameter of less than 1 mm it is impossible to expose a nozzle body to fluid at its front. However, in combination with specially designed catheters its movements can be improved, in particular, in a narrowed pathway of the body. For this purpose, the rear part of the catheter is to be sealed with a stocking-like membrane over the guiding wire extending axially therein. The front of such single-lumen catheters must be provided with a nozzle head having at least one nozzle directed forward, so that fluid jets reach the space located in front of the catheter simultaneously with the excitation of a floating element of the front nozzle in order to impart oscillations and at the same time reach the space in which the front part of the guiding wire is located, so that the guiding wire can be advanced better and farther there, with displacement of the wall of narrowed vessels of other pathways. It is even possible to couple this principle with the use of a balloon at the front of a double-lumen catheter if a coaxial double tube for a catheter is used in which the guiding wire can be pushed through or retracted longitudinally and axially without any rear connection, whilst fluid is passed to the balloon/balloons via simple transverse perforations in the catheter wall through the cylindrical lumen of the catheter which is present on the outside thereof and is also closed at the back. Additional oscillations are ... by ... Original abstract incomplete.
