Sterile closure and coupling unit
Abstract
Abstract The invention permits sterile connection of lines for transport of matter. It is specifically intended for use as a hose coupling for connection of the liquid vessel to the abdominal catheter in peritoneal dialysis. The sterile connection of two volumes is effected as follows (see Fig. 1): a coupling piece (2) - volume 2 - is pushed onto an identical coupling piece (1) located on a hollow needle (9) - volume 1. The covering films (5 and 6) are peeled off together, so that the contact surfaces (3 and 4) rest against each other without coming into contact with the surrounding medium beforehand. The two coupling pieces are then pushed conjointly onto the hollow needle (9) - to the left in the picture -, the tip of the hollow needle piercing through the contact surfaces. A second contact surface with a covering film on the coupling piece (2) permits a new connection, etc. <IMAGE>
