Abstract
Abstract This catheter probe is designed to prevent physical interaction between the probe and its environment and thus produce more reliable results. This is achieved by placing the probe inside the open front end of the catheter. The blood etc. is sampled only for brief periods whilst between sampling, the probe is flushed with a reference fluid for calibration. The measuring probe elements (6A,B,C,D) are fitted inside the open end of the catheter with connecting wires (7) running inside the catheter or in its wall. A channel (5) allows fluid to enter from the open front end for analysis and also allows a reference fluid to be flushed through.
