Explosive dismantling of tubes - using internal charges in central tube for directional severing
Abstract
Abstract Tubes and nests of tubes with difficult access, e.g. in boilers of nuclear power stations which have to be dismantled for premature replacement or a permanent shutdown of the station, are broken up by explosive charges. An explosive charge is lowered into a central tube within a group and is ignited at the desired depth. A thin profiled metal ring surrounds the charge to intensify the cutting action. The explosive charges pref. have one or two detonators and are arranged around a hollow (a) or solid (b) element. The cutting action is pref. intensified by a profiled metal ring with an insulating (plastic) coating. The explosive is pref. retained between two plugs. This exposes the personnel during dismantling operations to a minimum of radioactive radiation.
