Abstract

Abstract This electrode is implantable in the heart tissue to convey stimulating pulses to the heart muscle. It has one or more spherical heads with a conducting surface. This electrode provides good anchoring and yet may be withdrawn as its shape does not allow tissue to grow over it. The spherical head (5) which is made of a material tolerated by the body, is supported by a conductor (4) which is exposed at the tip (6) and neck (7). The connecting cable (2) has an insulated covering (3). Variations feature two or more such spherical heads on the same conductor which is sufficiently flexible not to restrict movement.
