Ultrasonic direction and depth indicator - uses beam scanning providing intersecting picture display on screen for injection needle or probe
Abstract
Abstract A device determining the direction and depth for the introduction of an injection needle or probe to meet, for instance a tumour in the human body, includes an ultrasonic intersecting image instrument with an intersecting image mechanism that adjusts the ultrasonic beam in a preselected plane. This mechanism is coupled to a guide for the injecton needle which is permanently set to the plane scanned by the ultrasonic beam. The direction in which the needle must be aimed is visible on a display screen which carries two scales similar to those on the needle guide mechanism. This provides an exact guidance for injection needles and probes as well as for radium or laser treatment.
