Polymer articles prodn. with reduced thrombogenic tendency - by treating with soln. of synthetic fibrinolytic cpd.
Abstract
Abstract Prodn. of antithrombogenic polymer materials comprises treating a polymer material (I) with a soln. of a synthetic fibrinolytic cpd. (II) so that (II) is attached to (I) by chemical bonding or adsorption. (II) can be a 1,2-diphenylpyrazolidine deriv. (e.g. phenylbutazone), an anthranilic acid deriv. (e.g. mefenamic acid), a salicylic acid), a salicyclic acid deriv. (e. g. a chlorobenzyl-salicyclic acid), a cinnamic acid deriv. (e.g. an alpha-alkyl-halocinnamic acid), a Beta-aryl-substd. aliphatic acid (e.g. Beta-phenyl-n-butyric acid) or a heterocyclic carboxylic acid deriv. (e.g. niflumic acid). The process can be used to treat polymer articles coming into direct contact with blood, e.g. prosthetic devices, catheters, artificial organs and suture materials. The coating of (II) is easy to apply (even to complicated shapes) and provides long lasting inhibition of thrombus formation.
