Catheter for assisting child-birth - has conical membrane and hollow reinforcing ring erected by air or water pressure
Abstract
Abstract The device for assisting childbirth, which is inserted in the body of the mother, is a catheter which is inserted in a folded or collapsed condition, and which is then expanded by air or water. The catheter tube (6) terminates in and end portion (12) which is conical when expanded with a stiffening ring (10) all round the outermost part. This end portion (12) consists of a flexible membrane with reinforcing ribs (11) along it, and carries injection channels (9) for the air or water. This injected medium passes into the stiffening ring to erect the conical portion. Further channels (10a) permit injection of treatment fluid.
