Abstract
Abstract The catheter is designed to be placed in the bladder to permit its emptying. It has a balloon (a) at the tip which is inflated to occupy the bladder and so prevent removal of the catheter. The bladder is emptied via a side opening (6) and channel (3). A parallel channel (8) communicates with the balloon (a) and has a check valve to prevent the balloon deflating. A third channel (13) communicates with an opening (14) spaced (a) from the balloon to allow the urinary tract to be irrigated or treated with medicaments. The opening (14) is preferably elongated in the axial direction of the catheter.
