Abstract Closure for a natural or artificial human bodily orifice which end in an implant (2) extending through the outer skin comprises a closure member (4) contg. permanently or low-retentivity magnetic materials (5), which is attracted by at least one permanent or low-retentivity magnet (3) embedded in the implant. The implant pref. has a cylindrical or conical opening, and contains an even number of radially magnetised magnet segments. These coact with oppositely poled magnet segments in the closure member to effect automatic closure, and automatic axial opening on rotation of the closure member about an angle at which the segments are opposed with like poles. The closure is partic. suitable for an anus preternatural with a wide opening e.g. 20 mm, for maintaining hygiene.
