Abstract
Abstract The fired ceramic articles for implant purposes contain 95-50, pref. 90-80 wt. pts. Al2O3, 5-50, pref. 10-20 wt. pts. ZrO2, TiO2 and/or Y2O3 and less than 10 wt. pts. other ceramic additives, pref. BaO, CaO and/or MgO. Used as bone replacements in dentistry and orthopaedics. These ceramics are physically, chemically and biologically stable, have sufficient mechanical strength to withstand repeated external loads, e.g. in chewing on artificial teeth inserted in the implant, and a high absorptivity for x-rays.
