Abstract
Abstract The hard metal spike has a tapered bottom section which widens into a securing flange which is bonded to a rubber pad which is softer than the rubber of the tyre tread. The pad and the securing flange are contained in a metal can with a closed bottom, and with the bottom of the pad bonded into the bottom of the can. The top edge of the can is bent over to secure the flange. The spike assembly is embedded in the tyre tread and the spike is pressed into the tread, by compressing the pad, when the tyre runs on normal roads without damaging the road surface.
