Method for producing cryofractures in samples of animal or vegetable tissue and apparatus for implementing this method
Abstract
Abstract The rapid contamination of a surface of a sample of animal or vegetable tissue denuded by cryofracture is avoided by performing this operation in an enclosure (2) under a pressure of the order of 10<-9> torr. The sample is placed in an object holder (7) which is introduced through an airlock (6) into the enclosure (2) where it is placed on a plate (8) so as to cause its cryofracture. The surface of the sample thus denuded is covered with carbon coming from an evaporation gun (3) and with a layer of metal coming from an evaporation gun (4). The sample thus treated is intended to be subjected to electron microscopy examination. <IMAGE>
