Abstract

Abstract The invention concerns a biopsy device with which a tissue sample can be obtained and a substance can be administered in a single step. The structure consists of a multi-lumen cannula with a biopsy channel 1, which includes the whole transverse diameter of the cannula, and one or more side channels 2, 2a, 2b which are used to administer substances and which communicate with the biopsy channel 1 in the area of the cannula tip. The arrangement of the channels 1, 2, 2a, 2b guarantees a maximum transverse diameter of the tissue samples with a minimum transverse diameter of the needle. The administration system is controlled automatically via a switch mechanism 5, 6 through the aspiration process. By means of this invention, it is possible to considerably shorten the length of time needed for tissue sampling and substance administration. In this way, biopsy complications can be avoided, and the biopsy indications can be extended. <IMAGE>
